The naturally refreshing Sunshine Coast gives you a beautiful place of fun, sun, rest, and relaxation.

Bask in the Sunny Coast warm sunshine, or cool down in its sparkling water bodies and pristine beaches. If you’re adventurous enough, you’d probably even head on to its lush subtropical forests.

When you’re in Sunshine Coast with the kids, sometimes they need a little more than just chilling in the beach. If you’re looking for some family fun, here’s one of our top picks:

Ginger Factory

Anyone here grew up in South East Queensland? If yes, then you’ve probably visited the Ginger Factory at Yandina as a child. There are educational tours, tranquil gardens, along with a delightful icecreamery. The Ginger Factory has so much for you to see, do, taste, and discover. The best news is, it’s free admission and  you can visit any day of the week!

The Gardens

You’re welcome to take a stroll around for free, but there’s something quite charming about taking the century-old Moreton train and listening to the commentary as your eyes relax at all the lush greens.

The Ginger Train leaves every half hour between 9:30 am and 4:30 pm at the Ginger Town Station. Ticket prices are $7 for children, $8 for adults, $7.50 for seniors, and $30 for families.

Overboard

The Ginger Train isn’t the only ride to enjoy around the Ginger factory. Hop on board the Overboard Boat Ride and meander through different countries around the world. Here you can follow the story of the Gingerbread Man as he tries to escape the clutches of two dastardly hungry chefs.

Your kids will surely love all two hundred handmade moving puppets, together with all the other sights and sounds during their ride. Grab a ticket anytime throughout the whole day with prices ranging from $11.50 for children, $12.50 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $44 for families.

Super Bee

Learn all about the secrets of the hive as beekeepers teach you all about the fascinating lives of honeybees. However young or old you are, the bees will charm you as they dance, make honey, and protect the Queen. If that doesn’t rivet you, then honey tasting sessions in the Ginger shop surely will.

The Super Bee is open four times daily and you can grab tickets $11 for children, $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, and $57 for families.

Food, Gifts, and Kids

When you get hungry, head to the Ginger Cafe which offers all sorts of light tasty treats and superb filling meals. Need dessert after a savoury meal?

The ice creamery has a wide range of mouthwatering ice cream flavours and famous parfaits. If your kids still have energy to burn after the day (and some food), there’s a playground near the cafe with a toddler section on one side and a more challenging section for older children on the other.

While they burn off their last bursts of energy (or sugar from the ice creamery), head to one of the retail shops around Ginger Town and look for souvenirs at the main Ginger Shop. From gourmet food to skincare, to other bobs and bits, you’re sure to find the perfect gift.

If you’re going with the whole family, be sure to pack snacks, baby seats or baby boosters for the little ones, and a few games to keep the kids from getting bored. If your car’s too small, you can always book a rental car in Sunshine Coast to fit all of your family road trip needs. Have fun and happy travels!

The food court has been newly renovated and offers a café selling light meals and refreshments, as well as an ice creamery selling ice-cream and parfaits.

Parents will appreciate the large, fenced and covered playground that adjoins the café seating area. The playground has a toddler section on one side and a more challenging playground, suitable for pre-schoolers and primary school aged children, on the other side.

Near the eating area are also six “Ginger Town” retail shops to browse, as well as the main gift shop, selling hundreds of Buderim Ginger products and souvenirs. These products can also be purchased online.
