“Working at Alpha Car Hire as a woman has had no challenges when it comes to biases to women, dealing alongside work colleges, retailers, dealerships, panel beaters and mechanics there is a common line of respect shown at Alpha Car Hire. The automotive industry is very male-dominated. From experience with other car hire companies, it is easy to get swallowed up or overlooked for promotions.”
Piece of advice for younger generations:
“As a strong independent woman, I would advise the younger generation to believe in themselves and treat it like it was their own business. Absorb all the information from your work college and always ask questions. (There is no such thing as a stupid question)”
5. Denise McGuire
Tweed Heads Business Manager: I currently reside in the beautiful Hinterland of the Gold Coast; I have 4 beautiful children who have very supportive of my career.

“For a period, I was a stay-at-home mum until I decided to head back into the workforce and try my hand at something new! A frightening thought at first however, I was grateful to secure a position at a large Car hire company and let’s just say the ‘something new’ has been very rewarding as I now enter my 16th year in the industry. At first, I found it to be mostly Men who were offered Management roles however, over the years I have witnessed more women like myself rejoining the workforce and taking up the challenge of being a Manager.
That all changed upon joining the Alpha group, As I enter my fourth year with Alpha Car Hire, I would have to say I still thoroughly enjoy the daily challenges of being a Manager in a very busy tourist area and together with my Team we enjoy welcoming new and repeat customers.”

Sydney Business Manager: I began my journey as a casual worker and have now ascended to the role of Business Branch Manager, despite lacking prior knowledge of the car industry.

Challenging the stereotype that women lack understanding of cars has surprised a few individuals, including my former mentor, Bill, who recognized my potential and encouraged my growth within Alpha. After Bill’s departure, Ryan also recognized my abilities and offered me the position I currently hold. I am immensely grateful to both of them.”

7. Leanne Folomu
Tullamarine Business Manager: My name is Leanne. I am the Business Manager at Alpha’s Melbourne branch. I have been working at Alpha for just over a year and a half.
Personal experiences working at Alpha Car Hire as a woman:
“I have worked in the rental car industry for 13 years. I began as a CXR and worked my way up to management. Being a female leader always comes with hurdles. People are often quick to doubt your ability as a leader or question if you are ‘up to the job’. Being a mum to a three-year-old often fuels this assumption, particularly in prior jobs. I had been met with pushback and told a mother couldn’t do a management job. Despite these hurdles, I feel proud of all I have achieved in my current role, with the support of Alpha and the Senior Leadership Team. Seeing other female leaders with Alpha promotes an environment where everyone regardless of gender, ethnicity, or age, can feel like a valuable member of the team.”
Piece of advice for younger generations:
“My advice to younger women in the workforce would be to keep pushing! You will always be met with pushback but if you keep pushing you will find a place where you feel valued and can thrive in your career.”
