There is no force more powerful than a woman determined to rise.” – W. E. B. Du Bois

Last 8th of March, communities around the globe came in solidarity to celebrate International Women’s Day. Women’s day is a global celebration of women’s social, economic, cultural and political achievements. It also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality and empowerment. Women’s day had its roots in the early 20th century when women worldwide started to demand their rights, especially the right to vote. The first official women’s day was held on March 19, 1911. Since then, women’s day has spread to many other countries and regions and has been recognized by the United Nations since 1975. Women’s day is an occasion to honour the contributions of women in various fields, raise awareness about the challenges and barriers they still face, and inspire action for positive change.
