There is just something about muscle cars that get people excited. Is it the high horsepower engine that smoothly goes 0-60 under five seconds? Or maybe it’s the chrome finish on the vehicles or the shiny paint job that is guaranteed to make heads turn as you drive by. You can check out cars like that and more at Australia’s yearly Street Machine Summernats Festival. Let this be your guide to the event.

About

If it’s muscle cars around Australia you’re looking for, then the Summernats Festival is the place you want to be. The event started in 1988 and was headed by Chic Henry. Since then, it has taken on a life of its own and is now the most significant car event in Australia.

The festival is four days of all your favourite things wrapped up in one exciting place: street machines competing for the best car, enjoy the sound and smell of muscle cars as they go head to head in an epic burnout battle, and enjoy concerts and more.

The best part about the show is that it won’t matter if you’re a die-hard gearhead or a casual fan of cars in general because everyone is welcome to come and party with fellow car-enthusiasts in the country. The Summernats Festival is scheduled from January 4 to 7, 2018 at Exhibition Park in Canberra.

Exhibitions and Trades

One of the great things about the Summernats Festival is that it is also a chance for people looking to trade or buy muscle cars. Buyers and traders are guaranteed to get the best deals as both buyers and sellers have the opportunity to talk to each other directly regarding the vehicles on hand.

Car owners who are looking to show off their vehicles instead of selling them are given ample space for people and fellow car enthusiasts to admire the work they have put into the car in the past year or so.

Free buses

Don’t have a car to get to the event? You have two options: either you rent a car so you can drive yourself to the venue in comfort and style, or you can avail the event’s free shuttle service that they are offering to everyone who wants to come and join the fun.

Their bus service comes with a strict timetable so you have to make sure you are there on time. The free chartered buses to the Summernats will be operational on January 6 and 7 starting from 7 pm to midnight.

They will run a service between EPIC and the City Bus Station, with the last bus departing EPIC at exactly midnight.

Alternatively, if you don’ feel like taking the free rides, you can choose to ride the regular bus service that will require you to pay a fee. The routes for these buses are as follows:

Weekdays: Route 56, 57, 58 and Red Rapid Services
Saturday: Routes 950, 956, and 958
Sunday: Routes 950, 956, and 958
