It was announced that Queens Wharf Tower will be shutting down before the end of the year. It was shocking news for a lot. But before locals could recover from this news, officials announced the possibility of Luna Park closing its doors.
Amendments to the city’s laws require the owners to submit an application before they can make changes to the park. That includes erecting and deconstructing rides.
However, city officials have made this a challenge. As their construction certificate for a new ride was rejected.

Luna Park CEO Peter Hearne spoke with the Sydney Morning Herald, he said: “We are deeply disappointed by this decision, which places a big question mark over the long-term viability of one of Sydney’s best-known and most-loved destinations.” He added: “We have always played by the rules only to find that, now, those rules are being interpreted in a way that will place the long-term future of the park in doubt.”
Because of the new law, and their rejected applications, the owners feel that Luna Park’s future is in jeopardy. Only time will tell whether or not the park can remain open for future Australians to enjoy.
