I hired a basic car from Alpha at Melbourne airport and the pick up seemed to go well. After driving around town for a few days I realised that it was too underpowered for the weeks of touring that we wised to do around Australia so I contacted Alpha Australia to request an upgrade. The Alpha person informed me that this was possible but that it would be seen as a new booking and that I would loose the remainder of the rental fee I had already paid, about what 800 Australian dollars. I was quite prepared to pay extra for an upgrade but not to give them 800 for nothing. I told them this and they said that the call would be transferred to the airport rental office to see if they could help me. When the call went through I was back with the same person who was supposed to have transferred my call so she tried again and this time I ended up with someone in their Brisbane office. I explained the situation again and this time I was told that the staff member would need to check with her colleague to see what to do, the connection then went dead and I ended up hanging up. As the booking was made via a booking site I mailed them to ask for help only to be told that any change to a booking has to be made 48 hours before pick up. As we are talking about an upgrade this seems to be impossible. My concerns about how my initial call was flipped around from person to person were not addressed at all and now if I still want to upgrade I will loose 800 dollars and have to start again. I have only had the car for 3 days. I am going back to the airport office today to see if a personal touch can help and if not then I will book a new car for 6 weeks but not with Alpha. This initial booking was for a shorter period and I will see out this time with the current car but the much longer road trip will be with another company one that believes in supporting their customers rather than exploiting them.
Had a great experience with Alpha Car Hire after I was a bit reluctant about renting with them having read through some bad reviews. The staff were friendly and made the process smooth and hassle free. The car was not super clean inside when I got it but I didn’t mind too much. It drove perfectly and was economical. The airport shuttle drop off was quick as well. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a reliable rental.
Initially went with Alpha due to the strong Google reviews and the booking process was easy and email update leading to the day of the booking were consistent and informative. This is where the compliments end.Upon picking up our luggage at Melbourne airport, we were informed to call them for the shuttle bus. I called and waited on hold for 10 minutes before the call just hung up automatically. Tried this again and was hung up at 10 minutes too. Decided to catch an Uber to pick up the car which cost me $13 and upon arriving, there was no one at the front desk and noticed on the wall a piece of paper that stated any abusive behaviour will not be tolerated, which indicated that there must have been a high degree of customer dissatisfaction to put this kind of warning up permanently.Someone eventually came and I informed them that I waited 20 minutes and no one picked up the phone and I had to call an Uber there. There was little empathy and was not offered a refund for the fare. I informed them that I need to go to a funeral straight away and this delay would make me late already at which point he did assist by not charging me a bond and releasing the car relatively quickly which I appreciated. However, I was still late to the funeral! This was absolutely inexcusable.The car was quite dirty outside although inside, it was clean. I had to drive my family around so I was forced to take it to a car cleaning place to vacuum the inside myself as well as give it a high pressured hose down. Quite ridiculous actually.I have used East Coast Car Rental on more than 10 occasions and their service and vehicle has always been excellent and decided to try Alpha due to the reviews but will never use them again. I have never had to wait on hold for more than a minute with East Coast and their service and vehicles are always top notch.On top of this, the after hours drop off incurred a $25 fee that is NOT mentioned anywhere on their website. Although this was waived due to the shuttle bus experience, the Uber ride should have been reimbursed.I will never use Alpha again.

Have been using alpha car hire at both Melbourne and Brisbane airports for a number of years. Always found them to be very reliable with pick up and drop off's between the airport and depot. I am normally travelling as a couple or in a family group and find the range of vehicles offered suitable for our needs and are reliable and clean.
Exceptional customer service, would recommend to anyone.The lady who worked on the afternoon shift on 10/05/24 showed exceptional professionalism and thoughtfulness. (At easy car rental counter)We arrived at Alpha to return the car around 4pm which was later than what we anticipated due to the traffic conditions, and our flight was departing at 5 pm. After she found out we could potentially miss our flight, she proactively secured permission to operate a second shuttle, drove us to the airport to ensure our timely arrival at the airport.Without her proactive assistance, we would have missed our flight. Please extend our heartfelt gratitude to her.
Go Alpha! From shuttle pickup at airport and return the staff were efficient, friendly, and happy. The vehicle we hired was clean and comfortable. Alpha made our travels so easy and less stressful. And it was a beautiful blue 💙 loved it 😊
This was my second hire from Alpha and the experience was equally as good as the first. The booking process was easy and vehicle options were great and off course the price was excellent! The pick up process at Melbourne Airport was efficient and stress free. The driver was fun and offered a few good tips for drop off and pick up. The process for checking the car out and in was streamlined and again stress free which is big when you are traveling. You wont go wrong using Alpha!
